The third film and final of Wang Bing’s Youth trilogy (and, at 2½ hours, the shortest of the bunch), Youth (Homecoming) has the season winding down as our subjects prepare to trek home for New Year. With a tighter focus on a smaller number of characters than what we saw in the first two Youth films, Youth (Homecoming) juxtaposes life working in garment factories against the long trek home and then finally being home, only to head back to Zhili and start it all over again once New Year comes and goes.
