http://www.webster.edu/seminarsAs St. Louis grows as a startup hub for entrepreneurs, now is the time to examine how the hip-hop culture has influenced the way in which business is being done. Many might think that hip-hop as a cultural phenomenon only affected entertainment and media; however, students and community members will have an opportunity to interact and learn how some hip-hop artists used entrepreneurial concepts for economic empowerment and community-building. In addition to a panel discussion and various resources such as articles, CDs, and videos for this interactive seminar, Steve Stoute's book The Tanning of America: How Hip-Hop Created a Culture That Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy provides a foundation for making a connection between the hip-hop culture and today's businesses.
