The village of Toritama, Brazil is considered to be the “jeans capital of the world.” From early morning to late at night, homes double as work facilities and residents work tirelessly to sew, hem, cut, and fray—hoping not only to survive but to prepare for the annual Carnival of Brazil. Though claiming the freedom to be their own bosses and work their own hours, this film serves as a commentary on capitalism and those who work the hardest because of it.
In Portuguese with English subtitles.
With an introduction on February 28 only by Kathy Corley, Professor Emerita at Webster University.
