(David Cronenberg, 1983, Canada, 87 minutes)
While looking for fodder for his edgy cable TV station, programmer Max Renn (James Woods) comes across a mysterious torture-filled show called Videodrome that he hopes will get his ratings up, and his pursuit of the show’s origins leads him down a rabbit hole of unpleasantness. Co-starring Debbie Harry of the seminal new wave band Blondie, with Videodrome body horror maestro David Cronenberg capably cemented his permanence as an enfant terrible of international cinema after the success of Scanners two years prior.
