György Fehér, who has a screenwriter credit on Béla Tarr’s Werckmeister Harmonies and a producer credit on his epic Sátántangó, made the stunning feature Twilight prior to either of those films, and it sure to appeal to fans of Tarr’s (who is credited as a consultant here). Now beautifully restored in 4K, and with whiffs of Fritz Lang’s M if it were recast as an existential noir, Twilight follows a homicide detective who finds the corpse of a young girl in a remote wooded area. The work of a serial killer called “The Giant,” our hero becomes increasingly obsessed with catching him before he can kill again.
In Hungarian with English subtitles.
