Workshop Overview
This insightful workshop aims to deepen counselors' understanding of how racism, discrimination, and xenophobia affect students' wellbeing and school culture. Through personal reflection, educational content, and real-life testimonies, participants will gain valuable insights and practical strategies to foster a more inclusive and supportive educational environment.
Objectives
1. Counselors will explore their own personal backgrounds, in particular beliefs and messages that shaped their views of people of different nationalities, colours and/or skin tones;
2. What is racism and xenophobia and how do we understand power and marginalization in the Swiss context?;
3. Learn about testimonies of racism and xenophobia of students of colour and different nationalities based on recent research in Switzerland;
4. Understand the impact of racism and xenophobia on students’ wellbeing and school culture;
5. Learn about ways of raising awareness and empowering students in the school setting.
Trainer : Jana Finlayson and Brianna Tante hold graduate degrees in counseling from Webster Geneva. Their work is focused on improving the mental health of young people.
