About this Event
(Ena Sendijarevic; 2019; Bosnia and Herzegovina, Netherlands; 91 minutes)
Coming in as the debut feature from Ena Sendijarevic, Take Me Somewhere Nice follows Bosnian-born Alma as she journeys back to her country of origin to visit her sick father, after years spent living in The Netherlands without him. Little is revealed while much is explored in this quirky arthouse piece which takes thorough notes from Jim Jarmusch’s Stranger Than Paradise. Though the plot crosses the terrain of the Bosnian countryside, much room is left to wander and experience the sensation of being lost--in more ways than one. Shot in 4:3 with a soft, creamy palette, and often nontraditional framing, Take Me Somewhere Nice is the kind of coming-of-age story that doesn't have to take itself so seriously.
