About this Event
From 8/7 to 8/20, Film Series patrons can rent Sunless Shadows. Juxtaposing vérité-like footage of their day-to-day lives with intimate confessionals made directly to the camera, Mehrdad Oskouei's documentary Sunless Shadows looks at six teenage girls in an Iranian detention center. All six are in for killing abusive men in their lives--husbands, fathers--and in sum serves as an effective examination of the Iranian patriarchy. Somehow maintaining a true sense of joy and freedom amidst its proceedings, though, Sunless Shadows is not always the heavy watch one might expect.
