Join us for a Special Exhibition Reception for Matika Wilbur Exhibit and Simiya Sudduth Exhibit on Friday, Feburary 28th from 5:30-7:30pm with Artist Talk by Local Artist Simiya Sudduth.

 

Join us in the Kooyumjian Gallery to Celebrate the Matika Wilbur Exhibition entitled Project 562: Changing The Way We See Native America. Matika Wilbur is a critically acclaimed social documentarian from the Swinomish and Tulalip peoples of coastal Washington. Project 562, her crowdfunded initiative to visit, engage, and photograph people from over 562 sovereign Tribal Nations in North America, is her fourth major creative venture elevating Native American identity and culture. She co-hosts the All My Relations podcast which has been downloaded over 3 million times. She has offered over 300 keynotes at such places as TED, Harvard, Yale and Google; and she recently unveiled her national Indigenous literacy curricula in partnership with the National Education Association. Wilbur is a National Geographic Explorer, and a regular contributor to the New York Times. In 2023, her book “Project 562: Changing The Way We See Native America” was released and instantly became a NYT Bestseller.

 

And celebrate the sideshow spotlight exhibition on local artist Simiya Sudduth. Exhibit opens Feb 10 and Runs until April 22, 2025. Simiya is a Black and Indigenous (Choctaw and Chickasaw) mother, multidisciplinary artist and art educator. They maintain a fluid creative practice that primarily manifests in the realm of public art and social practice. Their work explores the intersections of healing, ecology, social justice and spirituality. Simiya’s expansive creative practice ranges from digital illustration, designing and painting murals to experimental sound healing performances. Their work serves as a provocation for both personal and collective healing.

 

Opens Feb 10 and Runs until April 22, 2025.
