(Pete Docter & Kemp Powers, 2020, USA, 100 minutes)
A gorgeous piece of computer animation, typical of its production company Pixar, Soul finds middle school teacher and hopeful jazz pianist Joe Gardner get waylaid (to put it mildly) on his way to what he expects to be his breakthrough gig. Determined to get the chance he feels he so deserves, Joe must find his way out of this uncharted realm and back to the jazz club where he belongs. Co-directors Pete Docter (director of Up and Inside Out) and Kemp Powers (writer of One Night in Miami) make for an apt artistic pair, and the result is one of Pixar’s best in years.
