Out of circulation since its initial 1974 release, the independently produced, Oakland-shot Black action/crime feature Solomon King is a showcase for Sal Watts, who wrote, directed, and starred in the film. Watts plays the titular character, a detective trained in the CIA who seeks to exact revenge on those who murdered his girlfriend. With a great soul-funk soundtrack (an old LP of which being the seed that caught the attention of those who went on to execute this restoration) and great 70s costumes courtesy of Watts’ real-life store Mr. Sal’s Fashion, we are pleased to screen Solomon King from its new restoration, courtesy of Deaf Crocodile Films (Ilya Muromets, Delta Space Mission).
