Winner of Best Actress César #2 for Isabelle Adjani, One Deadly Summer (L’été meurtrier) was a huge hit in France, establishing Adjani as a force at the box office as well performance. Something of a predecessor to the erotic thriller boom in America in the 90s, in One Deadly Summer Adjani plays a mysterious young woman who moves to a small French town with her remote mother and disabled father. As her motives for moving become clear, Adjani is afforded the opportunity to show the full range of her talent. Based on a novel by screenwriter Sébastien Japrisot, who later wrote the novel A Very Long Engagement (Un long dimanche de fiançailles) the basis of the Jean-Pierre Jeunet film of the same name. With a score by Georges Delerue (Contempt).
