Starring Jet Li (Hero) in one of his best roles, Once Upon a Time in China finds him playing the Cantonese martial arts hero Wong Fei-hung, who, in the late 19th century, defends China from imperialist plundering at the hands of the English, French, and Americans. With action choreography by the great Yuen Woo-ping, who later worked on everything from Kill Bill to The Matrix to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
