Get to know Qian Julie Wang, best-selling author of Beautiful Country.
Qian Julie is a graduate of Yale Law School and Swarthmore College, and a managing partner of Gottlieb & Wang LLP, a firm dedicated to advocating for education and civil rights. Read more about her on her website: https://www.qianjuliewang.com/bio
This session will be hosted by Patty Li, Director of the Webster University Confucius Institute.
Joining them will be the following discussants:
- Dr. Xiaolong Qiu, a writer, poet, and scholar of comparative literature. He is the author of the critically acclaimed, award-winning Inspector Chen series, which has sold over two million copies worldwide and have been published in twenty languages.
- Hongling Zhang, a writer and literary translator living in St. Louis. Her essays and short stories have appeared in Dublin Review of Books, SupChina, Tampa Review and Selected Stories of North American Chinese Writers. She has published two collaborative translations of literary works from China titled Wang in Love and Bondage and The Bathing Women, and has translated AB Yehoshua’s The Continuing Silence of a Poet and Alice Munro’s Open Secrets (contracted) into Chinese.
- Dr. Melody Yunzi Li, an assistant professor of Chinese at the University of Houston. Her research interests include Asian diaspora literature, modern Chinese literature and culture, migration studies, translation studies and cultural identities. Besides her specialty in Chinese literature, Dr. Li is also a Chinese dancer and translator.
