About this Event
(Catherine Breillat, 2023, France, 104 minutes)
Catherine Breillat, the auteur behind such provocations as Fat Girl, Romance, and Anatomy of Hell, has made her first feature film in ten years with Last Summer. In it we are aligned with Anne (Léa Drucker, last seen on St. Louis movie screens in Lukas Dhont’s Oscar-nominated Close), an attorney whose marriage to the businessman Pierre (Olivier Rabourdin) has stagnated. Pierre’s first marriage resulted in a son, the now 17-year-old Theo (Samuel Kircher, looking like a supporting player from a Gregg Araki movie), who abruptly returns to his father’s care. When Pierre leaves town on a business trip, Anne and Theo quickly tumble into a dangerous affair. With a couple of original tracks by Kim Gordon.
In French with English subtitles.
