(John Huston, 1948, USA, 100 min.)
With cinematography by the great Karl Freund (Lang’s Metropolis, Browning’s Dracula), Bogie & Bacall’s final screen collaboration is their first and only with another of Bogie’s usual collaborators, director John Huston, with whom he worked on The Treasure of the Sierra Madre the same year. In Key Largo Bogie plays Frank, a WWII vet who visits his friend’s widow, Nora (Bacall), at a hotel she runs with her father James (Lionel Barrymore). Unfortunately, they’re interrupted by a gangster named Johnny Rocco (Edward G. Robinson, of Little Caesar and Double Indemnity).
