Karen Nakamura, a Hass Distinguished Chair of Disability Studies & Professor of Anthropology at University of California – Berkeley, will lecture in Browning Hall, the Interdisciplinary Studies Building (ISB) on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 11-12:30 p.m.
The lecture is titled, “Lesser Lives: Disability and Eugenics in Contemporary Japan."
Nakamura’s research has focused on disabilities in contemporary Japan. Her project topics include sign language, schizophrenia, and most recently a project on gender and sexuality. She is currently conducting research on prosthetics.
