The newest in a series by director Matías Piñeiro (Viola, The Princess of France) loosely dedicated to the women of Shakespeare, Isabella concerns a young woman named Mariel (frequent Piñeiro collaborator María Villar) who wants to play Isabella in a local production of Measure for Measure. The narrative arc follows Mariel as she tries to surmount entirely-relatable

financial trouble, but many of the film’s chief pleasures come from Piñeiro’s playful use of color and texture, which demand the film be seen on the big screen.
