Chuseok, originally known as hongawi meaning "the great middle of autumn," is a major harvest festival and three-day holiday celebrated in Korea. Occurring on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, Chuseok is a celebration of the good harvest - when Korean families visit ancestral hometowns, enjoy songs, dance and folk games, and share a feast of traditional foods and rice wines.  

 

The 2019 Chuseok Festival will run for two days.  Saturday, Sept. 28, is presented in collaboration with the Community Music School (CMS) of Webster University and on Sunday, September 29th, the celebration moves to the St. Louis Art Museum for "Passport to Korea." Some of the activities during the weekend include:

  • Traditional Games
  • Korean Dance - Traditional to K-Pop and Gangnam
  • Traditional Songs to Modern K-Pop
  • Taekwondo Martial Arts
  • Traditional Musical Instruments
  • Calligraphy
  • Korean Alphabet Demonstrations
  • Kite Making
  • Crafts

 

This is a FREE event with free parking on Saturday at the Garden Plaza Parking Garage located down the street from the Community Music School at 554 Garden Avenue.
