About this Event
(Dieudo Hamadi, 2020, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, 88 minutes)
Dieudo Hamadi, the 2018 True Vision winner at the True/False Film Festival, returns to Congolese capital Kinshasa for his new feature documentary, Downstream to Kinshasa. In it we follow a group of wounded survivors of the Six-Day War of 2000 from their hometown of Kisangani (from which city Hamadi also hails) in the northeast to Kinshasa in the southwest, with the hopes that they can collect the compensation promised to them by the International Court of Justice but then promptly forgotten about. Hamadi's empathy for these travelers comes through strongly, and viewers are forced to face modern-day atrocities that are too often ignored in western media.
Rent the film ($12 for seven days) here.
