An alumnus of the New Directors/New Films fest and winner of the Silver Bear at Berlin in 2023, Giacomo Abbruzzese’s debut feature Disco Boy stars international star Franz Rogowski (Passages, Transit) as Aleksei, a perhaps frivolous Belarusian immigrant who makes his way to Paris without a passport. Upon arrival he happily enlists in the French Foreign Legion as a means to obtain a coveted French passport, and soon after enlisting finds himself sent to the Niger River Delta. A distinctly cinematic coming-of-age war movie with recognizable tropes but a rich geopolitical awareness, Disco Boy announces Abbruzzese as a talent to watch, and further maintains Rogowski as one of our best and most charismatic stars.
