The feature filmmaking debut of writer/director Giovanni Tortorici, Diciannove follows 19-year-old Leonardo (likeable newcomer Manfredi Marini) as he leaves home for the first time and inevitably rebels against his university professors, his peers, his family, and whoever/whatever else is handy. Replete with lots of handsome European scenery (Palermo, Siena, London), this moody shot-on-film attention-grabber was produced by Luca Guadagnino, and its depiction of the experience of being young indeed calls to mind Call Me by Your Name and Challengers.
