The Community Music School of Webster University (CMS) invites you to a concert featuring some of their distinguished faculty on Saturday, October 13th at 2:00 p.m. The concert will be held at the CMS Concert Hall located at 535 Garden Avenue on the campus of Webster University.

The afternoon will begin with the Sonatensatz (Scherzo in c minor from the F.A.E. Sonata) performed by Nancy Daby (violin). The F.A.E. Sonata was a collaborative work with Schumann, Brahms and Dietrich composed in Düsseldorf in 1853. Each composer was assigned a different movement for the work with the Scherzo being composed by Brahms. Additional pieces to be performed from Schumann's time as conductor in Düsseldorf include the first movement of Schumann's Sonata No. 1 in a minor Op. 105 for Violin and Piano to be performed by Angie Smart (violin), and Schumann's Märchenbilder for Viola and Piano Op.113 to be performed by Ingrid Popp (viola). In keeping with the time period, but changing geographical region, Angie Smart will also play the Scherzo Tarantelle, Op. 16 by Polish composer Henri Wieniawski (1855). All pieces will be performed with Vera Parkin(piano) artistic director of the CMS Preparatory Program.

Brian Garrison (trumpet) and Kirt Pavitt (piano) will perform Albinoni's Adagio from Concerto in d minor, Op. 9 No.2 which was originally composed in the early 18th century for oboe but has more recently been arranged for trumpet by Caleb Hudson with the Canadian Brass. Patrick Rafferty (guitar) will play works by Cuban composer Leo Brouwer, and Jill O'Brien will sing selections from Porgy and Bess (Gershwin), The Bakers Wife (Schwartz), and West Side Story (Bernstein).

The faculty members at the Community Music School represent not only some of the best music educators in the area, but also some of the best musicians - performing with St. Louis favorites like the St. Louis Brass Band, Arianna String Quartet and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra among others.

The concert is FREE and open to the public.
