Set in 1981 Paris against the backdrop of the election of François Mitterrand, The Passengers of the Night finds Élisabeth (Charlotte Gainsbourg) struggling to take care of herself and her two teenage children after her husband leaves her. Quick to get back on her feet, Élisabeth finds a job screening callers for a popular radio call-in show hosted by Vanda Dorval (Emmanuelle Béart). In her capacity at the radio station, Élisabeth meets Talulah (Noée Abita), a teenage runaway whom Élisabeth invites to stay at her home, irrevocably changing the family mechanic for all involved.
