(Van McElwee, various, United States, 105 minutes)

Free admission!

Award winning media artist Van McElwee will present a program of his new video and sound work, including: “Cylinder Seal” (based on an ancient rolling stamp that impresses a virtually endless pattern into clay or other soft material); “Premonition of a Mantra” (video and sound become mind-stuff, modulated by an edit-form); “Time Drawings” (a four-dimensional sketchbook that uses hand-drawn animation, video and sound to explore time, space and dimensionality); and “Exotic Vector” (nested worlds travel to a stationary tourist, announced by bells and gongs).

Van McElwee's fifty-year body of media art includes over one hundred single channel video works, installations and web projects. His work has been exhibited extensively worldwide and is represented by The Kitchen in New York, Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis, Heure Exquise in France, LUX in the UK, the Inter Media Art Institute in Germany.

“Exotic Vector does more than simply make references to spiritual experiences, it employs advanced compositional skills to set up resonating chambers in the viewer’s consciousness, affecting us on a powerful, pre-conscious level, until we feel that our eyes, ears and mind are ringing along with the bells and gongs. In short, it not only speaks about spiritual experiences, it creates the conditions that allow us to have such an experience while watching. This is cinematic art at a high level, indeed.” -David Finkelstein, Lake Ivan Film Journal
