The first film from the Coen brothers, director Joel and producer Ethan, and Frances McDormand’s big screen debut, Blood Simple won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 1985 and tied with Martin Scorsese for Best Director at the first Independent Spirit Awards. In this neo-noir, a bar owner (Dan Hedaya) suspects his wife (McDormand) of having an affair. He hires a private investigator (M. Emmet Walsh) to confirm his suspicions, but inevitably things don’t go quite as expected.
