Public Safety will host a short demonstration that simulates what happens when a person becomes intoxicated.
From 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 12 in the University Center’s Presentation Room, members of Public Safety will let students try “impairment goggles,” which are special glasses that distort a person’s vision and make the person act as if they are under the influence of alcohol. The students will then be asked to perform a series of simple, everyday tasks.
The purpose of the demonstration is to help students understand what happens when alcohol is consumed and therefore encourage them to plan for their own safety when they are at events with alcohol, whether that be to have a designated driver, a friend to accompany them to events, or to purposefully limit the amount of alcohol consumed during an evening out.
The event also will be an opportunity to meet members of Public Safety and ask questions about other safety programs available on campus.
