Escape from New York

Part of Strange Brew: Cult Films at Schlafly Bottleworks

(John Carpenter, 1981, USA, 99 min.)

In the future (or 1998 that is), crime is out of control and New York City is a maximum-security prison where the criminals run amuck. When the convicts down the President's (Donald Pleasence) plane in the treacherous wasteland of midtown Manhattan, it’s up to one-eyed war vet cum superhero Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell).  Shot in and around the once decaying city of St Louis (Chain of Rocks Bridge, Fox Theater, Union Station).  The film co-stars Isaac Hayes (The Duke of New York), Ernest Borgnine (cabdriver), and the late Harry Dean Stanton (Harold "Brain" Hellman - an advisor to The Duke).
